Purpose
Very Good Productions is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all employees, volunteers, artists, and visitors. Sexual harassment undermines this commitment and will not be tolerated. This policy outlines the organization’s stance on sexual harassment and the procedures for reporting and addressing such behavior.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, independent contractors, volunteers, interns, artists, board members, and anyone else affiliated with Very Good Productions. It also applies to third parties interacting with the organization, including vendors, contractors, clients, and visitors. The policy is in effect during all organizational activities, including at our offices, off-site events, performances, workshops, and other work-related settings.
Definition of Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment is any unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature that creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive work environment. It includes, but is not limited to:
- Unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or inappropriate physical contact.
- Verbal conduct of a sexual nature, including lewd comments, sexually suggestive remarks, or threats.
- Non-verbal conduct, such as sexually suggestive gestures, visual displays, or written materials.
- Retaliation against an individual for refusing sexual advances or for reporting harassment.
- Quid pro quo harassment, where submission to sexual advances is tied to employment decisions (e.g., hiring, promotion).
Sexual harassment can occur regardless of the gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation of the individuals involved.
Reporting Procedures
1. **Internal Reporting**: Anyone who experiences or witnesses sexual harassment is encouraged to report the behavior immediately. Reports may be made to:
- The show host
- Team Leader
- Emailed through the “Contact Us” page on the website www.verygoodcomedyshow.com.
Reports may be made verbally or in writing. Confidentiality will be maintained to the greatest extent possible, but some details may need to be disclosed to conduct a thorough investigation.
2. **External Reporting**: In addition to internal reporting, individuals may file complaints with external agencies, such as:
- The New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR)
- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
- The New York City Commission on Human Rights
Investigation Process
Upon receiving a report of sexual harassment Very Good Productions will promptly investigate the complaint. The investigation may include interviews with the complainant, the accused, and any witnesses, as well as a review of relevant documents or communications.
- **Timeline**: Investigations will be conducted promptly and typically concluded within 30 days, depending on the complexity of the case.
- **Interim Measures**: While the investigation is ongoing, interim measures may be put in place to prevent further harassment or retaliation. These may include temporary changes in work assignments or schedules.
- **Outcome**: Once the investigation is complete, both parties will be informed of the outcome and any corrective action to be taken.
Disciplinary Action
If the investigation confirms that sexual harassment has occurred, Very Good Productions will take immediate and appropriate disciplinary action. This may include:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Mandatory training or counseling
- Suspension or termination of employment or affiliation with the organization
- Reporting the incident to law enforcement if appropriate
Protection Against Retaliation
Very Good Productions strictly prohibits retaliation against anyone who, in good faith, reports sexual harassment or participates in an investigation. Retaliation can include any negative employment action, such as demotion, firing, or punitive scheduling changes. Retaliation is a serious violation and will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Policy Review and Updates
This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to comply with any changes in applicable laws or regulations. Very Good Productions is committed to continuous improvement in creating a safe and respectful workplace for all.
